As an Authorized Partner of Blue Marble Geographics, GEN Technologies informs customers that a new version of Global Mapper is now available, bringing a set of significant updates to Lidar processing, photogrammetry, and coordinate transformation tools.

The update adds tree trunk classification and extraction for Lidar point clouds, identifying trunks by Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) and trunk length and allowing them to be extracted as features with optional cylinder mesh models. The Automatic Point Cloud Analysis tool now includes a Live Preview window that classifies and renders a subset of the point cloud as classification parameters change, so settings can be evaluated without running a full analysis.

Key Highlights

Pixels to Points (P2P) now supports imagery with more than 3 bands, enabling point clouds with up to 4 bands and orthoimagery with any number of bands, alongside further speed and meshing quality improvements. The Batch Convert/Reproject tool has been updated with coordinate transformation support, including time-dependent transforms, and a new interface, while the Coordinate Converter received updated labels and unit information, transformation details, an input/output swap option, and a Clear function. Geopackage support was also improved to better maintain fidelity in and out of Global Mapper, including Feature Types and custom point symbols, and the Online Data tool now supports loading ESRI MapServer raster sources.

This release continues Blue Marble Geographics' ongoing investment in Global Mapper's Lidar, photogrammetry, and geodetic tools, and GEN Technologies customers with an active license can update to the new version through their existing License Manager.
